Who are we? We are a local chapter of Toastmasters International, the most cost-effective, and funnest, way to learn and practice communication (especially public speaking) and leadership! Started in 1924 in a YMCA in California, it now spans the globe, with over 200,000 members in over 9,300 clubs in over 70 countries.
What's in it for you? Our training will enhance your communications and leadership skills. That may not sound like much, but think about it -- you use these every day, when you interact with your customers, colleagues, kids, pretty much anybody! It will enhance your self-confidence, as you learn to think on your feet and not get flustered. These can enhance your career and your personal life. But most of all, it's fun!
Why should you join Fairfax Toastmasters? We offer a friendly, supportive, diverse, laid-back atmosphere. We let you proceed at your own pace, with no grading, and no flunking. We have an active mentoring program to make sure you get the one-on-one attention you need. Our extensive web site includes a duty-roster system to make it easy to manage your roles, tools to manage your goals, a profile where you can show off your accomplishments, and much more.
How does it work? Mainly, we hold meetings -- but not boring droning meetings like at work! We hold fun, fast-paced, productive meetings! We take turns in each role, such as Speaker, Evaluator, Table Topics Master, or Toastmaster of the Evening. We learn valuable lessons from the feedback we receive -- including on the feedback we give. We also learn leadership by taking officer positions, and hold contests.

Where do we meet? Normally at Fairfax High School (corner of Rebel Run and Old Lee Highway), Room J101. (Yes it used to be J136, and then J102. The school renumbered the rooms, and then moved us as well.) Go in the main entrance. J-wing is to the right, and Room 101 is at the end. Sometimes we meet at the Fairfax City Regional Library, or other places. We'll announce that well in advance, at the top of this page.
When do we meet? 7:30 to about 9:00 PM, on the first and third Thursdays of each month. (In bad weather, the school system may close for after-school activities. If that happens, we cannot meet at the school, so check the Fairfax County Public Schools web site, and here.)
Come to one of our meetings and check us out. (We start promptly at 7:30, so please arrive at least five minutes early.) For more information, call us at (571) 20-TALKS (571-208-2557), or click here to send us an email. (Don't forget to fill in your address!)
